The 1755 earthquake destroyed the town of Albufeira, destroying activity which was only resumed in the mid XIX century. For years the export of fish and several nuts were the main economic sources of the region. Tourist activity arose only from the 1960s, becoming the great source of the region income. A strong economic growth, allowed Albufeira to be a considered a town in 1986.
With over 3000 hours of sunshine per year, Albufeira is the perfect destination for all beach lovers.
